What Is Cub Scouting?
Cub Scouting is fun! No matter what grade you are in, kindergarten through fifth grades, it can be a blast. Do you like to learn by doing? This is just the place. You can learn to tie knots, set up a tent, or shoot a bow and arrow (archery). Have you ever cooked a meal on a campfire? Sent a secret code to a buddy? Built a birdhouse? Hiked? Earn awards for doing these things in Cub Scout Pack 291.

Cub Scouts are part of Dens & all Dens make up the Pack!
As a Cub Scout, you will be part of your own pack. The pack is divided into smaller groups called dens. All of the Cub Scouts in your den are in the same grade and may even go to the same school. The Cub Scout pack belongs to a church (Shepherd of the Hills Church). This group makes sure your pack has good adult leaders, a place to meet, and exciting things to do. The group gets help from the Boy Scouts of America, which is part of Scouting around the world.
Cub Scouts Do Things and Go Places
Have you been to the local police station? Or visited the fire station and sat in the driver's seat of the pumper truck? Or visited a real rock quarry? These are some of the places you might go with your den or as a Pack. You might also build a pinewood derby car and race it on the track, build a sailboat and race it in the raingutter regatta, or build a float and ride on it in a Halloween parade!
Cub Scouts Earn Awards
Each time you complete an accomplishment or learn a new skill, you will be rewarded. Sometimes the reward is a loop for your belt, a pin, or a patch. Sometimes it is a smile on your parents' faces to see you grow and learn.

Who runs the Pack?
Pack 291 is run solely by volunteer parents and other adults. Our Cubmaster is in charge of the Pack as a whole, and their Assistant Cubmaster helps them along the way. Each den (for each of the grade levels from kindergarten through fifth) has a Den Leader, and sometimes Assistant Den Leader(s), to help the den function and grow as a group. This model for the "program side" of our Pack allows us to devote personalized attention to each Cub Scout.
On the "administration side" we have our Pack Committee. The committee is run by the Committee Chair, and then their various Committee Members that make up the rest of this group. These volunteers are responsible for overseeing finances, program, and general operation of Pack 291. Think of it as a "board of directors" for our Pack (we chartered to Shepherd of the Hills Church).
Cub Scouts thrive when their is dedicated leadership to support their journey. If our Pack is the right fit for your child, we'd love to have to join us as a volunteer leader for one of the most fulfilling roles that one can have! Contact us if you have questions about becoming a leader.
